Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Thanksgiving - a day in November that's primarily an American holiday. Although other countries also have their own Thanksgiving days, in my home country this celebration has become an excuse to overeat and watch football and parades. This which was created as a day to give glory to the Creator for the blessings He gives us all year has become just another commercialized period of creative ways to increase commerce and spur the economy. And just in case Thanksgiving won't be the money maker they hope it will be, Christmas commercials and carols will begin playing long before this thankful day. Most hearty shoppers are much more concerned about "Black Friday" specials than the beautiful opportunity for gratitude we've been given.

One horrendous symptom of the problem is also one of my pet peeves, the phrase "Macy's Day Parade." Even the media has referred to this beautiful holiday using those words. We've gotten so far from the real meaning of this special day. It's time for us to step up and take the holiday back for what it was meant to be.

So, this is a page dedicated to giving you ways to revive the holiday. Scroll down, you'll find multiple ways for you to praise God and show the world what Thanksgiving really means.

Folks from every country are encouraged to participate. If you have a Thanksgiving Day in your part of the world, share the date with us in your post. I'm looking forward to discovering people who understand the real meaning of Thanksgiving Day and want to help me spread the word . . . We are Grateful to our Creator!

30 days of Thankfulness

Don't miss out on Thanksgiving

Often we rush right past Thanksgiving into Christmas. So Sycamore Tree Church first celebrated 30 days of Thankfulness in November of 2010.

We were challenged to post on Twitter and Facebook everyday in November something we are thankful for. We did it again in 2011 with even more participation than last year and in 2012 more than 400 people participated on Facebook and countless more on Twitter. It is beautiful to see people putting the emphasis back on being Thankful! I'll be praising God publicly again in 2021, and you can help us get the world involved.

Use #30DOT on Twitter and Facebook or just make your Facebook Status "I am #Thankful" and what you're thankful for. Obviously, you can do this year round! But we hope you'll especially consider joining us in our campaign during November. Check out that link right above to join the Facebook event.

Let's give God some praise as we celebrate Thanksgiving and not allow this holiday to get lost in our rush from Halloween to Christmas.

Plus, look around, you'll see I'm not the only one working to bring the importance of thanksgiving back! There are a lot of pages dedicated to 30 Days of Thankfulness.

One More Thing to Be Thankful For

I'm so thankful for all the support this endeavor receives every year. All over Facebook my friends are being thankful! When I've mentioned this goal in large groups, I get hoots, hollers and applause. The number of hits this page is getting and the number of people actually trying to keep Thanksgiving in the forefront in the midst of all of the Christmas commercials is a tremendous blessing to me!

In addition to all of the beautiful ways Christ touches my life every day, I am tremendously grateful for everyone who is participating! Thank you so much for helping share this vision to show our gratitude to our maker!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful in all circumstances . . .

Some of my Favorite words of Thankfulness

Are Found in Habakkuk 3:17-19

Though there is no fruit on the trees
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the crops fail
and the wheat and barley fields are bare
though my livelihood is stolen from me
and all that I know and love is gone,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.

This is the place for you to leave a note about your thankulness. I'd love to see this list filled and running over by Thanksgiving!

You can leave a comment, too, if you like, but don't forget to share your gratitude for what God has given!
